Training Programmes and Fees
The Institute of Process Industry is currently offering the following programmes for the Process Industry. More higher level programmes will be offered in 2010. They include:
WSQ Certificate in Generic Manufacturing (Process)
The WSQ Certificate in Generic Manufacturing Skills (Process) provides workers with a set of generic skills based on the competencies needed by the Process Industry. 

Programme Details
The WSQ Certificate in Generic Manufacturing (Process) comprises 5 modules. Each module or competency unit is also offered separately:

a.     Apply Teamwork in the Workplace
This module enables individuals to acquire the skills and knowledge to apply teamwork in the workplace. It includes the following elements:
  • Participate in team activities
  • Communicate with team members
  • Follow-through team activities
     Total hours: 8 hours
     Course fee: $19.26 (inclusive of GST and after SPUR funding)

b.     Apply 5S Techniques in the Workplace
This module enables individuals to acquire skills and knowledge to apply 5S techniques in the workplace. The skills and knowledge to be acquired include:
  • SEIRI - Clear unnecessary items from work area
  • SEITON - Organise work area in an orderly manner
  • SEISO - Clean work area
  • SEIKETSU - Maintain work area cleanliness
  • SHITSUKE - Maintain self-discipline in work area
     Total hours: 8 hours
     Course fee: $19.26 (inclusive of GST and after SPUR funding)

c.     Apply Workplace Safety and Health Practices
This module enables individuals to acquire skills and knowledge to apply workplace safety and health practices, thereby ensuring total safety at work. It includes the following elements:
  • Identify responsibilities under WSH Act
  • Identify hazards at workplace
  • Comply with safe work practices
     Total hours: 8 hours
     Course fee: $19.26 (inclusive of GST and after SPUR funding)

d.     Perform Fitting Works in Workshop
This module enables individuals to acquire skills and knowledge to perform fitting works with hand tools and equipment in the workshop at WSQ Level 1 operation. It includes the following elements:
  • Prepare for fitting work activities
  • Perform fitting works with hand tools and equipment
  • Maintain hand tools, equipment and work area
     Total hours: 8 hours
     Course fee: $19.26 (inclusive of GST and after SPUR funding)

e.     Perform Basic Maintenance Works
This module enables individuals to acquire skills and knowledge to carry out basic maintenance works in a process plant at WSQ Level 1 operation. It includes the following elements:
  • Prepare for maintenance works
  • Perform parts removal and replacement
  • Reinstate work site
     Total hours: 8 hours
     Course fee: $19.26 (inclusive of GST and after SPUR funding)

After successful completion and assessment in each module, the individual will be issued with a Statement of Attainment. Upon successful completion of all the 5 modules, the individual will be awarded the WSQ Certificate in Generic Manufacturing Skills (Process) by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).
WSQ Certified Operations Specialist

The WSQ Certified Operations Specialist is specially designed for technicians and operators across all industries to improve their operational performance and effectiveness at the workplace. 

Programme Details
The WSQ Certified Operations Specialist comprises 4 modules. Each module or competency unit is also offered separately:
  • Apply 5S Techniques in the Workplace (8 hours - $19.26)
  • Apply Teamwork in the Workplace (16 hours - $19.26)
  • Apply Workplace Safety and Health Practices (8 hours - $19.26)
  • Apply Quality Systems (17.5 hours - $19.26)
A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded for completing each competency unit successfully. The Certified Operations Specialist (COS) will be issued to the individual after obtaining SOAs for all 4 modules.

Participants who have SOAs in the first 3 modules from the Certificate in Generic Manufacturing (Process) will need only to attend the module on "Apply Quality Systems" to obtain the COS, and this applies vice versa.

The course fee is $19.26 for each module after SPUR funding for Singapore citizens and permanent residents. modules can be taken independently or in any sequence.


WSQ Certified Operations Professional
The WSQ Certified Operations Professional (COP) is designed for supervisors and managers. The course will equip them with supervisory and operational skills.

Programme Details
The WSQ COP comprises 4 modules. Each module or competency unit is also offered separately:
  • Supervise Work Improvement Processes (16 hours - $38.52)
  • Supervise Teams at Work (24 hours - $48.15)
  • Supervise Workplace Safety and Health Practices (24 hours - $48.15)
  • Supervise Quality Procedures (16 hours - $38.52)
The course fee in bracket is only applicable to Singapore citizens and permanent residents.

A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded for completing each competency unit successfully. The Certified Operations Professional (COS) will be issued to the individual after obtaining SOAs for all 4 modules.
